About the Recording

This recording is based on the use of the Golden Section, a mathematical proportion occurring frequently in nature (for example, in spirals), in musical compositions. The golden proportion seems to have been viewed as a perfect proportion since the Renaissance, if not earlier. In music, the golden section is often used for dynamic climaxes or structural moments, such as the introduction of a new theme.

For further details about the use of the Golden Section, see the article "Mozart, Chopin, Debussy and the Golden Section" in the 2011 edition of the proceedings of the International Conference of Musical Signification. Additionally, notes on the Golden Section in music can be found here.
